Howdy weekly readers!
This weekend I spent a lot of time digging into OpenAPI spec v3 and JSON References. It’s an enthralling topic (no really, I promise!) that I’ll hopefully have more news on next week 🙂
For now, here are four posts that I’ve read or re-read this week!
We Don't Do That Here
This is an excellent piece about establishing culture in a positive and firm way. TLDR; is that “We don’t do that here” is a firm yet kind way of calling out behaviour that isn’t representative of your culture. It’s a way that isn’t argumentative or tells someone that they are wrong. Simply that it is not something that people do here.
Read the post.Frontend Design
An older post but an excellent one. With the ever evolving talents of customer facing engineering the ‘frontend design’ role is one that bridges the gap between design, and implementation but without too much focus on either. It might not be a job title, but its certainly a crucial skill for your team.
Read the post.Continuous Learning
This one is short but sweet. Cal published this post back at the beginning of 2015 as a commitment to continuous learning. In some ways, that’s what this weekly post/newsletter is all about too. Perhaps you have a similar goal or challenge?
Read the post.Get rid of -m
This ones an excellent suggestion for anyone using git. By removing the -m from your git commit
, you remove the temptation to write short and unhelpful commit messages. I should do this WAY more often than I do… please don’t look at my commit logs.
Thats it for this week! If you missed last week’s edition I hope to see you at #hack4refugees later this month!
Until next week!
